Emotional Prostitution The psychology behind Black Mirror: Season 3, Episode 1 There are basic 5 emotions that are suggested by Paul Ekman.   This paper mentions which emotions are focused, which state triggers of each emotion, how emotions can be evaluated in the main character, which personality theories can explain the main character and lastly my ideas and comments on between social media and individual’s experiences.   I would say the fundamental emotion that is represented in Black Mirror is anger. However, emotions can be also seen that sadness, disgust, fear, enjoyment. These 5 emotions are universal that all humans conduct. There are two factors that play role on the answer of the question such as intrinsic and extrinsic factors. This belief clarifies why Gilgamesh is having so much trouble with competing for his own selfishness during the journey. He tries to love Enkidu despite the fact that his love is not genuine.  On some level, he feels obliged to try because they are not so different than each other since both have equal strength and power. Gilgamesh assumes that both can gain various benefits from each other’s unique power, so, with a little bit of contribution received from self-interest, the love arises between Gilgamesh and Enkidu. With assuming it is, these natural instincts must be taken under control by social regulations as Freud claims. At  this point, the element of civilization begins since natural dispositions are changed by the society itself. Otherwise, a powerful man can dominate neighbors not only because of his death drive, but also his appetitive interests. The effort to avoid powerful individuals exists in the society. However, the effort becomes more effective if only if “the majority [of society] united against all separate [and powerful] individuals”(49). Laws are for the individuals, but they cannot be broken for the interests and benefits of individuals as they are made for the goodness of the society.
